Earthquake in Cebu

October 4, 2025 - Reading time: ~1 minute

It could be really weird to think about it, but I think calamities such as earthquakes and typhoons bring out the best quality traits in humanity.

When earthquakes hit Cebu, I get messages from friends who don't usually check on me (not in a bad way because people have priorities).

Also in that moment, most Cebuano employees in IT Park choose to not go back to the office and continue to work even if they get an offer of double pay as long as they go back to work. From there, they understood that there's life outside work.

I then remembered the earthquake in Bohol way back in 2013, when a strong 7.2 magnitude strike hit Bohol. People forget about their differences in political and religious views.

All of them try their best to extend their hand to help their fellow human being.

Do we truly need to wait for calamities to arise in order to appreciate life and practice compassion?
