How Not To Get Distracted for at Least an Hour or Two

October 20, 2025 - Reading time: 2 minutes

It's amazing to think how many things you can do with an hour or two of straight work.

Simple things such as

  • You can update a document that has been sitting for days in less than 30 minutes.
  • Doing laundry can be done in 45 minutes to an hour (if you are solo or have a washing machine).
  • You can respond to emails in less than 30 minutes.

It is also wonderful to think that we live in a generation where our houses are built for comfort, we are not surrounded by wild animals, and our technology is designed to provide us an abundance of time.

However, why do we sometimes feel stuck despite these privileges that are supposed to simplify our lives?

Many of us, myself included, are guilty of this, and here is how I combat it:

  • Put away distracting stuff (mostly my phone and Nintendo).
  • Focus on 3 to 5 high-priority tasks each day, while low-priority tasks can wait.
  • When working on a laptop or computer, I use this plugin to temporarily block social media pages.
  • If still distracted and contemplating what's up with the world, I play brown noise music; it does the trick for me.

About

When I'm not working, I'm usually writing down ideas, playing with my cats, doing research on the topic of productivity and human advancement, or enjoying a cup of coffee at the local coffee shop...

I created this website as a replacement for my social media consumption, where I can share a more personal side of me, post updates about what I'm currently up to, and, most importantly, express my thoughts with the world...
